Dr. David Huntsman, M.D., University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada- Interim Director OvCaRe BC
Guest Speaker
Dr. David Huntsman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia, and Heads the Centre for Translational and Applied Genomics at the BC Cancer Agency’s Vancouver Centre. As a Clinician Scientist, he is involved in translational research studying the genetic and molecular structure of ovarian cancer, specifically identifying and studying susceptibility genes. His recent retrospective assessment of 21 candidate tissue-based biomarkers implicated that ovarian carcinoma subtypes are different diseases, contributing to the view that contemplation of disease subtype is crucial to the study of ovarian cancer. His team also were the first to successfully apply next generation sequencing technologies to ovarian cancers. Through this study they discovered a pathognomonic mutation in granulosa cell tumours of the ovary. Dr. Huntsman will be presenting his findings in Symposium I: Genomics and Proteomics in the Discovery of Novel Biomarkers and Therapies.
