Dr. John McLaughlin is the Vice President of Population Studies & Surveillance at Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) and a Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. He serves the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) as the Project Leader for Prevention and leads a provincial consortium as scientific director for cancer aspects of the Ontario Health Study (Cohort). A Senior Scientist at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute (SLRI), Dr. McLaughlin remains active in research where he established the Prosserman Centre for Health Research, a centre for molecular and genetic epidemiology. He has published extensively and his research leads interdisciplinary teams in large population-based studies to identify cancer causes by examining the interaction of environmental and genetic factors. As a leader of provincial initiatives for Cancer Care Ontario, Dr. McLaughlin also works to improve our knowledge and apply it in population-based cancer prevention, screening and surveillance programs with the ultimate goal of reducing the risk and burden of cancer in Ontario. Dr. McLaughlin will chair Session II: Etiology and Prevention - Cells of Origin and Stem Cells - Susceptibility and Risk Factors
